Sabar: a tradition that dances with flame
Share
The Sabar is much more than just a drum or a dance in Senegal. It is a vibrant symbol of Senegalese culture, a tradition that resonates in the lively neighborhoods of Dakar, such as Castor or that of the (Hann) Marists. In the past, these instruments allowed communication from one village to another, up to a distance of more than 15 kilometers. Each drumbeat tells a story, brings people together, and vibrates the air with a unique energy. The rhythms of the Sabar are accompanied by intense dances where each movement is ignited by the sound of the percussion, reminiscent of the unpredictable and captivating dance of a candle flame.
In every Sabar round, there is this human warmth, a warmth that emanates from smiles, knowing glances, shared laughter around the fire of common passion. In Dakar, these evenings are illuminated by the drum that guides bodies and souls, offering a lively and warm spectacle, like the light of a candle that flickers and dances in the darkness.
At Sabar , we seek to capture this essence in each of our creations. Lighting a Sabar candle or diffuser is a bit like bringing home the warmth of the Sabar rounds, where the flame embodies the spirit of sharing and the passion of Senegal. Whether in the dance of the flame or in the scent that fills the air, each Sabar creation is an invitation to travel, to feel this warm and deep connection with our roots.
